Throughout the years, we've fed our dogs a variety of different foods, all store bought, along with the occasional table scraps. In recent years we took a closer look at the ingredients in our own food, and were shocked at our findings. Upon discovering the amount of unnecessary synthetics, dyes and preservatives in our own food, we also took a look at what we had been feeding our dogs. Luckily enough, we had always supplemented with real meats, unknowingly, and our dogs had never had any digestive issues or allergies. But, upon closer examination of our dog food labels we decided to make a change. We found every resource available for different theories on raw feeding meats, and we settled to loosely base our feeding on one: The Prey Model - 80/10/10 (80% muscle meat, 10% raw edible bones, and 10% secreting organ) lightly supplemented with a Superfood Seasoning from PawTree, various grains, and a few nutritionally high value fruits and veggies. We primarily utilize this diet protocol, but occasionally do go on vacation and need an alternative that our dogs are used to while we are gone. Our food of choice when we are gone, or pressed for time, is PawTree Real Chicken and Sweet Potato Recipe topped with our dog's favorite Superfood Seasoning: Salmon Medley.
We understand that not everyone has the time or desire to chop up raw meats and organs every morning, but if you're interested in learning more about the health benefits of raw feeding, see the link below!
Our puppies start out fat and happy on their momma's milk, but at about three weeks it's time to begin the weaning process! We start with green tripe, and ground bone-in chicken. We introduce a small amount of PawTree Chicken and Sweet Potato, as well as beef and pork at around four weeks. We then add beef and pork to the mix, as well as bone-in chicken wings. Next, liver and other secreting organs and PawTree's Superfood Seasoning. By the time our pups are fully weaned, they are ready to be transferred to either a complete raw diet or solely to PawTree Chicken and Oatmeal. The Chicken and Sweet Potato Recipe is a complete nutritional source with the correct ratios of protein and fats, so we usually recommend that our puppy families continue to feed this recipe for approximately one year. Afterwards, an evaluation can be done to see if the pup could benefit from a lower fat recipe, or another protein source. Of course, any of the different Superfood Seasonings can be added on top of the pup's food for a dash of flavor and nutrients!
